I had planned on keeping my now sterile boy, Nasreddin. He is so spectacular and loving. I adore him. Then I got a call from a woman looking for an adult MC. I told her I have Nasreddin, and had already been offered high bucks for him, but declined. I gave her my lowest quote for him, and she couldn’t afford it.
We started talking about all kinds of things, including that she takes care of her 3 grandchildren, one of which has several very rare diseases, and what that care entails. It’s significant, to say the least. She didn’t sound the least bit down about any of it, only loving and committed.
At a certain point in our conversation, I blurted “I want to gift Nasreddin to you”. It wasn’t even proceeded by a thought, or followed with any form of regret. It was just a “knowing”, and I said it. The phone fell silent and I said “hello”? She was crying.
She asked if I was sure, and I said I was, and it would be an honor to see my boy go into such a loving home. Despite her disbelief, she gratefully accepted.
At the end of our call, she said I have a huge heart. All I could think to say was that it takes one to know one. I told her that I cannot imagine taking care of such a gravely ill child, and her reply was that he is a blessing.
She will be driving down from Michigan to pick Nasreddin up in a couple weeks. In the meantime, he is curled up on my lap, purring.
